Exciting changes at Boulder Oaks Golf Club
The Oaks Bar & Grill, which was previously operated as an independent entity, has now been fully integrated into the Boulder Oaks Golf Club operation. We believe this new structure will provide better management oversight, greater efficiencies and better quality control. The result will be a more satisfying experience for our customers and a more sustainable future for the restaurant.
As part of our efforts to upgrade the restaurant, we recently hired a top-notch Executive Chef, Dennis O’Leary. Chef Dennis recently retired from the United States Marine Corp after 22 years of service, 17 of which were spent in senior roles supervising and developing marines in the food services arena. For much of that time he served as a personal chef and household manager for 3- and 4-star generals, a role that often involved managing large events attended by top officers.
Dennis came on board on November 6 and quickly began revamping the menu, adding new daily specials, making adjustments to the staff, and instituting better training procedures. His primary focus is on improving “consistency” — that is, consistency in the availability and preparation of menu items, in the quality of the ingredients, and in customer service. Although the changes he is putting in place are just starting to be felt, we are already getting positive feedback from customers.
Beginning December 1, we expect all of the new changes to be in place. We will have a full breakfast, lunch and dinner menu, including new sandwich options for lunch. In addition we will be providing the following daily specials: Taco Tuesday with an expanded mexican menu; 75-cent Wings on Wednesday; Build a Burger and special pricing for Sliders on Thursday; Prime Rib Dinner Special on Friday; Date Night Saturday (reservations recommended but not required); and a Sunday Morning Brunch. The restaurant will be closed on Mondays, but a limited number of lunch items will be available.
The restaurant’s regular hours will be as follows: 10-8 on Tuesdays-Thursday, 10-9 on Friday and Saturday and 10-6 on Sundays. From time to time the restaurant will be closed for special events like weddings. In those circumstances, we will provide advance notice on our website: www.boulderoaksgolfclub.com.
We encourage everyone to come out and give the revamped restaurant a try. I think you will be pleasantly surprised.
New Services at the golf course
We have also expanded our range of services at the Golf Course itself. The driving range is now 100% complete, and Director of Instruction, Ken Mizumaki, will be conducting open clinics every Saturday from 10-11am. You can sign up by calling (760) 749-1620.
In addition, we are pleased to announce that we have just hired Matt Rivera as Tournament Director. Matt will be serving as our point person for charity tournaments, corporate golfing events and traveling groups. He was previously the Tournament Director for Boundary Oaks Golf Club in Walnut Creek.
Ongoing improvements to the course
We just completed our recent bi-annual course maintenance project which involved aeration, top-dressing and verti-cutting the fairway, and over-seeding with cold-weather grass. Golfers who have been playing here for the last 20 years say the course has never looked better!
